External Studies







 

All of Bright Futures Nationally Accredited courses can be studied externally - either by correspondence or online

What is External Study?

External Study means that you do not have to attend classes but can study from home using flexible materials supplied by Bright Futures, such as printed learning guides or online learning

You still receive the support of a Bright Futures Trainer who will be available, during normal business hours, by phone, email, post or fax

Do I need to be working before I can enrol?

No you do not have to be working, however you must be able to demonstrate practical competency in each subject of your course

If you do not have relevant, significant and recent employment (for example in a Child Care Centre for the Children's Services qualifications) then you will be required to undertake an unpaid Vocational Placement

How will my unpaid Vocational Placement be organised?

It is your responsibility to source a suitable employer for your Vocational Placement

Once you have agreement from an employer, Bright Futures will provide you and the nominated employer will all required government documentation and all required insurances. This service is included in the cost of your course

Will I require a Working With Children Blue Card?

Yes. Vocational Placement can only start once a Working With Children Blue Card has been issued

Is there a time limit for completion of my course?

No. You receive a Lifetime Enrolment with Bright Futures

You can take as much time as you need to complete your course

What are the language, literacy and numeracy requirements?

All Bright Futures courses are conducted in the English language.

You are expected to possess a good level of language, literacy and numeracy skills

While the course is competency based and not necessarily an academic course, there is an expectation that you are able to read, write and comprehend texts at a level similar to this document

Do I require computer skills?

Computer skills (including internet access) are not required to undertake any Bright Futures course

All External Studies subjects can be undertaken using workbooks or online

It is acceptable for the assessment items to be typed by an assistant, although students must ensure that all work submitted is their own

Of course, if you do possess computer skills and internet access, then you may choose to study online

How do I submit my work for assessment?

If you choose to study using workbooks, then you can post your work to Bright Futures for assessement. We provide a Reply Paid facility, so you have no postage costs
