School Based

School-based Vocational Education and Training (VET) allows high school students to work with an employer, train towards a recognised qualification, and complete their secondary school studies

Qualification

CHC30708 Certificate III in Children's Services

This is the entry level qualification required to work as an assistant in a Child Care Centre in Queensland, and so this course is ideal for people wishing to obtain a job in childcare

Duration

2 years / 8 school terms

Funding

School Based Traineeship (Queensland Students Only) 

  • Funding provided by Queensland Government under its User Choice program
  • No cost to student
  • Dependent upon availability of employers

School Based Fee For Service

Total cost $1,600

Payable

  • Upfront, or
  • $200 per school term, or
  • $20 per week by Direct Debit

Pre-requisites

  • Successful completion of Year 10
  • Students under the age of 15 or those who have not completed Year 10 are not able to enrol
  • Student must hold a Positive Notice Blue Card

Note:
To be eligible for a QCE, students must achieve at least 20 credits of learning. A minimum of 12 credits must come from completed Core courses of study. At least 1 credit must come from Core studies completed while enrolled at a school. The remaining 8 credits can come from a combination of core, preparatory, enrichment or advanced courses, with preparatory studies contributing a maximum of 6 credits. Partial completion of a Core course of study may also contribute some credit. Students must also meet the QCE literacy and numeracy requirements.  

Course Structure

Students to be available to attend Bright Futures classes or Vocational Placement one day per week
  

Additional Vocational Placement during school holidays may be required

Vocational Placement

200 hours spread over the duration of the course

Vocational Placement activities compliment and reinforce the competencies which the student is undertaking during that term

Unless arranged by the school, Bright Futures will organise Vocational Placements for School Based Fee For Service students. This includes all governmental and insurance requirements

Once a Term has commenced, the fee for that Term is not refundable

Student leaves school before completion of Year 12

Student may finish course with Bright Futures as a Fee For Service student

If student does not wish to complete course with Bright Futures, then a Statement of Attainment for successfully completed Units of Competency will be issued

Student completes Year 12, but has not completed course

Student may finish course with Bright Futures as a Fee For Service student

If student does not wish to complete course with Bright Futures, then a Statement of Attainment for successfully completed Units of Competency will be issued
